About the Expedition
Mongolia’s Highest & Most Remote Peak
Mount Khuiten (meaning “Cold” in Mongolian) rises to 4,374 metres above sea level in the heart of the Altai Tavan Bogd massif — the “Five Holy Peaks” of western Mongolia. Located in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park on the Bayan-Ölgii border with China and Russia, this is a journey to one of the most spectacular and untouched corners of Central Asia.
From the summit, climbers are rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime panorama spanning three nations — Mongolia, Russia, and China. The ascent follows the legendary Potanin Glacier, Mongolia’s longest glacier at 19 km, weaving through deep crevasses and ice fields in pristine wilderness.
Along the way, you will encounter nomadic Kazakh eagle hunters, Tuvan herders, Bronze Age petroglyphs, and rare wildlife including Snow Leopard, Ibex, and Argali wild sheep.

Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, our team will warmly welcome you at the international airport and transfer you to your hotel located in the heart of the city. After check-in and some time to relax, we begin the journey with a short introduction to Mongolia and the upcoming Altai expedition. In the evening, travelers enjoy a welcome dinner featuring traditional Mongolian cuisine while meeting guides and fellow adventurers. Depending on arrival time, guests may also explore nearby city attractions, local markets, and the vibrant atmosphere of Mongolia’s capital city. This first day allows travelers to recover from international flights and prepare comfortably before flying into the remote Altai region.
Day-02
After breakfast, we take a domestic flight across Mongolia toward the spectacular western region of Bayan-Ölgii. During the flight, travelers witness endless steppe landscapes, desert formations, lakes, and mountain ranges stretching across the country. Upon arrival in Ölgii, the center of Mongolia’s Kazakh culture, guests transfer to the hotel and spend the day exploring the local area. Travelers visit traditional markets, museums, and experience the unique atmosphere of this remote mountain town surrounded by the Altai ranges. The evening includes a detailed expedition briefing, equipment check, and preparation for the mountain journey ahead.
Day-03
Today we leave civilization behind and begin our overland expedition deep into the Altai Mountains by 4×4 vehicles. The route passes through dramatic valleys, winding rivers, rocky mountain terrain, and endless nomadic landscapes filled with yaks, camels, horses, and eagle hunters traveling across the steppe. Throughout the journey, travelers encounter local Kazakh nomadic families living in traditional yurts surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. Numerous stops allow time for photography and exploration of one of Mongolia’s most untouched wilderness regions. By evening, we arrive at the national park and establish our main camp surrounded by glaciers, snow-covered peaks, and the immense silence of the Altai wilderness. Guests spend the evening relaxing beside the mountains while enjoying dinner under a sky filled with stars.
Day-04
Today is dedicated to rest, acclimatization, and preparation for the upcoming climbs. Spending time at base camp allows travelers to gradually adapt to the altitude while enjoying the extraordinary scenery surrounding the glacier valleys. During the day, guests may explore nearby valleys, glaciers, and rivers with the guides while learning about the geography, wildlife, and history of the Altai Mountains. Our climbing team also conducts safety instruction and equipment preparation for the upcoming summit days. As the sun sets across the peaks, travelers experience one of the most peaceful and beautiful evenings of the expedition.
Day-05
Early in the morning, we begin the ascent of Malchin Peak, one of the most scenic mountains in the Altai region. The climb takes travelers through alpine valleys, rocky ridges, snow patches, and spectacular panoramic viewpoints overlooking glaciers and distant mountain ranges. Unlike technical mountaineering peaks, Malchin Peak offers an accessible but highly rewarding trekking ascent perfect for acclimatization before Khüiten Peak. From the summit, climbers enjoy breathtaking views extending toward Mongolia, Russia, and China simultaneously. After celebrating at the summit and capturing unforgettable photographs, we descend back to Base Camp where a warm dinner and rest await after a long but rewarding mountain day.
Day-06
Today we leave Base Camp and continue deeper into the glacier zone toward High Camp located at approximately 3,775 meters above sea level. The route becomes increasingly rugged and dramatic as travelers cross glacier terrain, rocky moraines, and icy mountain landscapes surrounded by massive snow-covered peaks. This section of the expedition provides a true high-altitude mountaineering atmosphere. Along the route, our guides carefully monitor pace and acclimatization while sharing knowledge about glacier travel and mountain safety. After arriving at High Camp, climbers rest while preparing equipment for the summit push. The sunset across the glaciers creates one of the most unforgettable scenes of the entire expedition.
Day-07
Before sunrise, climbers begin the ascent toward the highest mountain in Mongolia. The summit route crosses glaciers, snow slopes, and high-altitude ridges beneath the stars and early morning light. Guided by experienced mountaineering professionals, travelers gradually climb higher while witnessing extraordinary panoramic views across the Altai Mountains. Reaching the summit of Khüiten Peak at 4,374 meters is the ultimate highlight of the expedition — an unforgettable achievement surrounded by the borders of Mongolia, Russia, and China. After spending time at the summit for rest and photography, the group carefully descends back toward High Camp where climbers enjoy a well-deserved recovery evening.
Day-08
Today travelers have the opportunity to attempt Nairamdal Peak, also known as Friendship Peak, depending on weather conditions and the physical condition of the group. This optional climb offers another extraordinary glacier and alpine experience within the Altai Tavan Bogd massif. The mountain is famous for its remote atmosphere and incredible panoramic views over the surrounding border regions. Guests who choose not to participate may remain at camp, explore nearby glacier valleys, relax, or photograph the surrounding landscapes. Following the excursion, the group descends back toward Base Camp for rest and celebration after several days spent in the high mountains.
Day-09
Today we leave Base Camp behind and begin our journey toward the beautiful Syrgali Lake, one of the hidden natural gems of the Altai region. Along the route, travelers will witness breathtaking alpine valleys, glacier-fed rivers, endless green pastures, and distant snow-covered peaks stretching across the horizon. This day offers one of the most peaceful and scenic experiences of the entire expedition, allowing guests to fully connect with the untouched wilderness of the Mongolian Altai. By afternoon, we arrive at Syrgali Lake, surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes and pristine nature. Known for its crystal-clear water and tranquil atmosphere, the lake provides the perfect setting for relaxation, photography, and enjoying the silence of the mountains.
